Tensions are running high in Walewale as angry local youth besieged the Mba Duraana Palace, seeking answers from North East Regional Minister Ibrahim Tia regarding the newly imposed curfew on several areas.

The youth, who blocked the palace entrance, are threatening the minister to reverse his decision, which they believe is unfair and unjustified.

The curfew, which took effect on Saturday, February 15, 2025, will be in place from 6 PM to 6 AM, sparking widespread discontent among residents.

The affected areas include Loagri, Kukua, Walewale, Sayoo, Jarigbani, Gbimsi, and Wulugu.

The youth are determined to get answers from Minister Tia, who advised the Interior Minister to impose the curfew.

The curfew was imposed in response to recent security concerns in the region.

However, the youth argue that the decision is unfair and will have a devastating impact on their livelihoods.

In that agitating process, the North East Regional Minister’s car was vandalized by Walewa’s youth over the curfew imposition.

They claim that the curfew will restrict their movements and affect their businesses, which are mainly conducted in the evenings.

The situation remains tense, with the youth refusing to back down until their demands are met.
