In a disturbing case of relationship violence, the Accra Regional Police Command has arrested 29-year-old Augustina Adoma for allegedly committing arson and assaulting her former partner in a heated altercation that took place at Race Course in Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra.

According to a police press release issued by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the incident unfolded on Thursday, 26th June 2025, when the suspect visited her ex-boyfriend, 30-year-old driver Emmanuel Otabil, without notice.

The two had previously been in a romantic relationship.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the confrontation began when Augustina found Emmanuel with another woman at his residence.

In a fit of rage, she reportedly poured a bucket of water on the pair and seized Emmanuel’s Samsung mobile phone before leaving the scene.

However, the situation escalated later that same day.

Around 4:00 p.m., while Emmanuel was away, Augustina allegedly returned to his residence.

Using a spare key, she gained entry into his kiosk-like home and set fire to several of his personal belongings, including a mattress, bedsheets, blankets, carpet, and other items.

Tensions boiled over in the evening when Emmanuel confronted Augustina to demand the return of his mobile phone and to question her about the suspected arson.

During the ensuing quarrel, police say Augustina grabbed a knife belonging to a nearby orange seller and stabbed Emmanuel in the left side of his chest.

Emmanuel was rushed to the Race Course Hospital and later transferred to Lapaz Community Hospital.

Due to the severity of the injury, he was further referred to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), where he underwent emergency surgery. As of the time of the report, he remains on admission but is responding to treatment.

Following the assault, police tracked Augustina to the Tesano Police Station, where she had ironically attempted to file a separate assault complaint against the victim and present a medical report.

She was promptly arrested, and Emmanuel’s mobile phone was recovered from her possession.

The case remains under active investigation, as police work to establish the full facts surrounding the incident.
