Ahead of the Work Abroad Program media launch in Acca today, tensions are mounting in the youth front of the National Democratic Congress, NDC.
The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) Work Abroad Program launch is taking place today without the involvement of the Youth Development and Empowerment Minister, George Opare Addo, popularly called Pablo.
The YEA CEO, Malik Basintale, has reportedly refused to invite the Youth Minister to the event.
George Opare Addo, who also serves as the National Youth Organizer of the NDC, has been conspicuously left out of the program as the flier announcing the program has no mention of Pablo.
Concerns over Opare Addo’s exclusion intensified after the official event flier was released without his image or any reference to his ministry.
Instead, the flier prominently features Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment; Malik Basintale, the YEA CEO; and King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse who also serves as a patron to YEA.
Sources close to the program suggest that Malik Basintale deliberately excluded Opare Addo, stating that he does not feel comfortable sharing the same platform.
Basintale is believed to be Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC Communications officer’s boy.
The Work Abroad Program launch is taking place today at the La-Palm Royal Beach Hotel at 5:30 PM.
The initiative is aimed at providing Ghanaian youth with opportunities for employment, internships, and skills development in various foreign countries.
However, the internal wrangling within the government threatens to overshadow what should be a landmark initiative for youth empowerment.
Observers speculate that the rift may be a reflection of deeper political tensions within the NDC government. While the YEA operates under the broader framework of youth employment, its decision to sideline the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment headed by Pablo raises questions about internal power struggles and leadership dynamics.
The Daily Gist’s attempts to speak to Basintale were unsuccessful.
